Cassetta – The cassetta frame was developed in Italy during the late 15th century and widely used throughout the Renaissance. Also known as a plate or box frame, the construction of cassetta frames is usually comprised of a flat panel or frieze with applied raised inner and outer moldings. This design can be plain or very ornate.
