CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP
Lowy is dedicated to innovation, problem solving and research. Our conservators remain informed of the latest developments in the field of fine art conservation, regularly attending seminars and conferences as well as performing independent research in related areas of conservation science, techniques and materials of individual artists. Lowy’s conservation team is lead by David Yanez and Sebastian Deregibus.
DAVID YANEZ
Lowy’s Chief Senior Conservator David Yanez has been restoring renowned paintings in New York City for thirty-six years. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 1983 and his Master of Fine Arts from Queens College, City University of New York in 2015.
Trained early as an artist, woodworker and museum preparator, David apprenticed for some of New York City’s leading painting conservators, studying lining techniques under legendary fine art conservator Gustav Berger.
Throughout his career, David has restored American, European and Latin American paintings from the 17th – 21st centuries for museums, galleries, foundations, auction houses and private collectors.
In 2004 David founded Yanez Fine Art Conservation, working in private practice until 2020. He joined Lowy after six years of heading Luca Bonetti Art Conservation studio restoring high-value contemporary paintings as chief senior conservator. From 2024-2025 he was the lead conservation consultant for the St. Patrick’s Cathedral mural project.
David’s conservation approach maintains the standards of academic analysis and research, using non-invasive restoration techniques to preserve the integrity of each artwork. Currently, David’s main focus is on problem solving the conservation needs of contemporary paintings and non-traditional painted artworks.
SEBASTIAN DEREGIBUS
Lowy’s Senior Conservator Sebastian Deregibus has forged broad practical experience working as a fine art conservator in New York City for more than twenty-five years. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 2001 and his Master of Fine Arts from The New York Academy of Art in 2009.
Throughout his career, Sebastian has served as conservator for a variety of companies, providing his unique expertise on myriad conservation projects throughout the Greater New York City Area.
A talented fine art painter, Sebastian began his professional career with M & W Graphics, mounting antique historic posters onto acid free paper and linen backing. He was instrumental in consolidating and cleaning large murals on location with Evergreen Architectural Arts including The Church of St. Francis Xavier and Rockefeller Center.
Since joining Lowy more than fifteen years ago, Sebastian has specialized in the conservation of oil paintings, working with diverse methods, materials and talented conservators all of which greatly enriched and informed his practice.

PREVENTIVE CONSERVATION
The goal of preventive conservation is to promote fine art’s long-term health and well-being by improving and controlling its environment at all stages, from storage to transport, display, and maintenance. Applying a macro-to-micro approach, we assess an artwork in its context as a whole and then analyze each individual segment of its environment.
